First of all, thanks for visiting my page. My name is John and I hope you like my work.
My love of art began at school but it took a back seat as I left and pursued other interests. It was reignited in 2015 when I was challenged to draw a friend's dog from a photo. Since then I haven't put my pencils down!
I strive to achieve photo-realism in my portraits, and capture so much more than an image, but the personality and character of your beloved companion as well.
My Medium:
My favourite mediums include graphite and coloured pencils. I love the depth, definition and realism that can be achieved with a sharp set of pencils!
My preferred 'tools for the job' are Faber Castell Polychromos pencils for coloured portraits, and Faber Castell PITT 9000 pencils for graphite. I'm currently experimenting with surfaces, but I have found most success using Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Vellum, and Clairefontaine PastelMat.
In addition to those items, I also use a few other bits and pieces, mainly from Caran d'Ache and Prisma.
My Inspiration:
In my spare time, you can often find me in the mountains of England and Wales. They hold a very special place in my heart and I have never not been able to find my inner peace there!
Sitting solitude, on the summit of a rocky peak and exposed to the elements, has always allowed me to reset and refocus my mind. I can then apply this renewed vigour to all aspects of my life, and especially drawing.
